Birthday of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa: Constant Commitment to Environmental Issues

The 19th of November of each year represents, indeed, the occasion to highlight the multiple initiatives of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, president of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, in favor of the development and the diffusion of the environmental culture.

The latest action of Her Royal Highness is her participation in the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27), held from November 6 to 18, 2022 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

On November 9th, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, Goodwill Ambassador of the Congo Basin Climate Commission and the Blue Congo Basin Fund, presided over in Sharm el-Sheikh, a high-level Side Event on « Climate finance at the center of the operationalization of the Congo Basin Climate Commission and the Blue Congo Basin Fund », held as part of the COP 27.

On this occasion, Her Royal Highness delivered a speech in which she emphasized Morocco’s strong commitment to support the work of the three African Climate Commissions.

« As a Founding Partner Country and, above all, as a staunch African advocate for the region, the Kingdom of Morocco is determined to contribute to the achievement of the objectives set at the First Brazzaville Summit and the concrete actions recommended since, » said HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, stressing the strong commitment of Morocco, at the highest level, to supporting the consolidation of the other two African Climate Commissions.

On the same day, Her Royal Highness met in Sharm el-Sheikh with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Simon Stiell.

On November 8th, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa received, at her residence in Sharm El-Sheikh, Congolese Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, technical coordinator of the Congo Basin Climate Commission, Arlette Soudan-Nonault, on the sidelines of the COP 27.

On October 3rd, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa chaired the Board of Directors of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection in Marrakech, an opportunity for Her Royal Highness to highlight the Foundation’s main achievements.

The next day, Her Royal Highness inaugurated, in the ocher city, the Park of the olive grove of « Ghabat Chabab », rehabilitated within the framework of the program « Rehabilitation of gardens and historical parks » of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa inaugurated, on June 9 in Fez, « Dar Tazi », headquarters of the Fez-Saiss association for cultural, social and economic development, and the « Spirit of Fez » Foundation, before presiding over, in the evening of the same day, the opening ceremony of the 26th edition of the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music, organized under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, on the theme « Architecture and the Sacred ».

On May 6th, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, president of the Foundation for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage of Rabat, chaired the Foundation’s Board of Directors, which was devoted to closing the accounts for the years 2020 and 2021.

During this meeting, Her Royal Highness welcomed the latest decision of the World Heritage Committee on the state of conservation of the inscribed property of the city of Rabat, as well as the importance of the work accomplished since the inscription, in 2012, on the UNESCO World Heritage List of « Rabat, Modern Capital and Historic City: a Shared Heritage ».

The year 2021 has also been marked by the appointment of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa as patron of the Decade of Ocean Sciences Alliance, a network of eminent partners from around the world, committed to action in favor of the ocean.
