Morocco Partakes in COP-28 High-Level Meeting on Future of Sustainable Education

 A high-level meeting of the Green Education Partnership took place on Friday in Dubai, gathering ministers, prominent leaders, and education sector stakeholders from around the world to outline key directions for the future of sustainable education.

Represented by Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Preschool, and Sports, Morocco participated in this conclave, providing an opportunity to discuss the integration of sustainable education into teaching programs and ways to improve access to green education resources within educational systems.

During his address, Minister Benmoussa highlighted that the meeting serves as an occasion to mobilize and activate a network of international stakeholders committed to developing the capacities of young people in the field of sustainable development. Discussions also focused on sharing pedagogical approaches, best practices, relevant solutions, innovations, and financial considerations.

This initiative aligns with the momentum initiated by UNESCO and the Green Education Partnership to align the education system with sustainable development goals, the minister noted, further emphasizing that this alignment requires a genuine awareness among future generations regarding the challenges of sustainable development, aiming to foster their involvement and commitment to this societal project.

Minister Benmoussa emphasized the need for education to anticipate future challenges, prepare children to face them, and positively contribute to shaping the world for which they will be responsible. He pointed out that this new way of viewing the world is also a new way of understanding oneself and creating relationships with others.

Concluding his remarks, Benmoussa expressed Morocco’s support for the « Declaration on the Joint Program on Education and Climate Change. » He noted that the Kingdom is ready to share its experiences and best practices within the framework of robust bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
